Friends with Cancer

Wil visited with 2 new friends who are in the hospital today fighting their battles with cancer. Their conversations reminded me of this picture... how only sometimes someone who is going through what you are can really get it.  # cancersucks from: TRUTH 365 Trading Places…Last year we introduced Lily Weaver (left) and Sadie Keller through The Truth 365. Lily was 5 years cancer-free and Sadie was in the middle of her battle. Today the roles are reversed. Lily relapsed and Sadie has finished treatment. We took this photo of the girls today. Sadie lives in Texas but was in Virginia for our friend Sadie Murata 's Celebration of Life this weekend.  We ask ed Lily and Sadie what this image represents to them and here is what they had to say. Sadie says, “To me this photo shows how hard cancer is and how much support you need to face it. Only 6 months ago Lily was there for me as I was fighting cancer. Now, I am done with my chemotherapy, (hopefully forever), and Lily is in her figh

5 months

5/18/17 ... 5 months ago our new reality started...cancer definitely amplifies everything in your life. We still struggle every day to find our balance and we know the only way to get past this is to get through. I've told a few friends lately that it feels like we are at the bottom of a lake, we can see the bubbles rising but can't quite get ourselves going in that direction and that when we get to the surface we won't know where anything is. So for right now we are still s itting at the bottom of the lake and ever so grateful for those of you who are swimming around in the muck with us. For those that send down life lines of food and friendship and hugs and listening even when it's the same ole fishing tale keep sending out those lines of hope. Much love for all who are swimming or struggling to swim and for those who stop and throw out a line. And for those of you who are at the surface, save a boat ride for me

10.10.17 missing soccer

I miss watching Wil play soccer soooo much. I miss the smelly gloves. I miss standing at the goal line, yelling William. I miss the nasty sweaty hugs he would give me after games. I even miss the dang soccer turf pellets all over my house. I miss all the boys and my soccer family.  # cancersucks   U.S. Soccer  DO BETTER for every little kid out there who dreams big.

Life's struggles

Life's struggles... everyone has them, some little, some big. And of course there are the ones that fall in between. Wil's high school football team lost last night. My heart hurts a little for them, their record is 7-1, but I'm sure they're not thinking about the seven wins... We have all been there, Wil too. He has cried all the way home from more than one out of town soccer tournament. Doesn't matter that he has two state championships, a regional champion, and more soccer  medals than he can count....what matters is the current situation. I'm sure there is some great analogy that I should be extrapolating from these musing as it relates to Wil's struggle with cancer... but for now it escapes me. Thing is I'll keep pondering... because the sun will come up tomorrow and another game looms on the horizon. For everyone who is dealing with their own life struggles, little or big (((hugs))) and thanks for being on our team...you give us hope fo

Cancer clinic

Had a long morning at the cancer clinic. He had some numbness in his face that was worrisome. They sent us home after his vitals were normal. He still has some tingling in his fingertips, but probably from the vincristine chemo. #cancerstill sucks
